Israel’s War Formula

What exactly is spiraling out of control in the Middle East today?  Why is no one standing up while Israel stomps on Gaza, already killing over five hundred people, one hundred times the death toll of the Israeli’s?  Is this just a repeat of a short and brutal war, not far back in history - the 2006 Lebanon War, aka, the July War.

Only two years ago Israel was fighting in a similar conflict with Hamas’ brothers, Hezbollah.  On July 12, 2006 Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel border towns.  They did this to divert attention while they hit two armored humvees, patrolling the Lebanese - Israel border.  In the attack there were three fatalities, two injuries, and two Israel soldiers were kidnapped, their remains only to be returned to Israel this past July.  Just as in the present horror-story, Israel bombarded Lebanon with aerial attack, and eventually sent ground troops into southern Lebanon.  When the smoke cleared more than one thousand Lebanese civilians were dead, and one million displaced, leaving parts of southern Lebanon uninhabitable.

The irony here is that Hezbollah only exists as a reaction to Israel.  They formed in 1985 with the intent of freeing Lebanon from the Israel occupation of Lebanon.

Today Israel is spreading the exact same destruction in the Gaza Strip.  Yes, they were provoked, like a bee provokes a bear.  Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, at present offers nothing but moral support to the Palestinians of Gaza.  But he has also already learned his lesson; don’t mess with Israel.  Their military is the most powerful in the region, thanks to US funding, and they obviously have no mercy, and no remorse.  2009-01-05
